Discerning.
In the end— we just want the peace and calm. We no longer appreciate extravagance and attention seeking and over the top grand. The fractious noise of the world is sickening. Comparing. Competition. Contesting. Reels. Ranks. Status updates. In the end, we just crave for some space in the silence. Simplicity. Family. Clarity. We just want to rest our ever so open and vulnerable hearts. Who are you BEFORE the world told you who to be? It’s tiring trying to please the world. And please others. And please the boss. And please the stories we are constantly sold. Yes, in the end, all we truly yearn for is some shared solitude. The false allure of over the top extravagance and grandeur fades as we realize the noise of the world—its relentless dog eat dog do whatever it takes, obsession with ranks, obsession with "followers" or content creators or "influencers" and fixation on job, status or any OTHER type of other —leaves us weary. The constant chase, the constant grind, the ceaseless fixation on creating someone else's dream. To become exhausted and worn out and possibly anxious or depressed, only to meet external expectations or receive external validation and please others like a well trained puppy, absolutely drains the soul.
Western society has been labelled and conditioned since birth to "soldier on", "push through", "top score", "winners are grinners" and "do whatever it takes, takes, takes to secure the sale or contract or other busyness needs. For who? Your dream may look and sound VERY different. Only you can realise how much of your good will and heart and soul you will GIVE to meet those profit motives or bottom lines or key performance indicators. Of course personal goals and career ambition and disciplined wiser work are all vital, BUT at what cost?
What we crave is not more, but less: the gentle quiet of simplicity, the warmth of family, and the peaceful embrace of stillness. We seek a place where our hearts can finally rest, free from the exhausting demands of a world that never seems satisfied, no matter how much we may give, or sell or trade off to create our dreams? Or someone else's?
In that recharging simplicity, in that restive solitude, we find true contentment for our body, heart and soul.
