Anna Purna Living & Parenting

10 Notes on Parenting Teens   How Carrie-Anne Moss  Stepped Out of Her Comfort Zone BEING A MOTHER HAS TAUGHT ME SO MUCH ABOUT MYSELF. by Carrie Anne Moss "My desire to grow is something I truly appreciate. I offered a course for a few years on Annapurna Living called Mother. What a deep and beautiful experience we all had exploring our journey as mothers. I recently came across some notes I had taken a few years ago while speaking to a dear friend/mother/mentor who has a grown daughter.  I wanted to share these notes with you— Perhaps one of you needs this inspiration. Parenting teens is often challenging.  May these notes support anyone who needs them. Notes from my friend Malin about parenting teens: 1. Be delighted with them just the way they are.   Even with patterns of withdrawal,   isolation and addiction to electronics. 2. Work on personal grief/anger/sadness   (connected to teen)   so we become less prone to leaking   these emotion...

"Upstream" by Mary Oliver

Image
Concentration is indeed a difficult art, art’s art, and its difficulty lies in the constant conciliation of the dissonance between self and world — a difficulty hardly singular to the particular conditions of our time. "Two hundred years before social media, the great French artist Eugène Delacroix lamented the necessary torment of avoiding social distractions in creative work ; a century and a half later, Agnes Martin admonished aspiring artists to exercise discernment in the interruptions they allow , or else corrupt the mental, emotional, and spiritual privacy where inspiration arises. But just as self-criticism is the most merciless kind of criticism and self-compassion the most elusive kind of compassion , self-distraction is the most hazardous kind of distraction, and the most difficult to protect creative work against. How to hedge against that hazard is what beloved poet Mary Oliver (September 10, 1935–January 17, 2019) explores in a wonderful piece titled “Of Power and T...

Fresh Daily Rises

Our problem is how to die to everything that we know, so that we can live; to die to the injustices, the pleasures and the pains. I do not know if you have ever tried to die to something? I assure you that it is only when you die that there is a fresh mind; but you cannot die if you are not passionate.  It is only the empty mind that is rich, not the mind that is full of knowledge beliefs, experiences, hopes and despairs - such a mind is worn out, such a mind is not a new mind, it is an experienced mind, and an experienced mind can never learn.  It is only the empty mind, the mind that is dead to the past, to everything, that is rich because such a mind, being passionate, can receive, and therefore knows what it is to love. Sirs, have you ever really felt deeply the inequality of life why you have and another has not, why you are gifted and the other is not?  If you have really felt it passionately, then you will know that love knows no inequality.  To see the m...

“Yin teaches us the wisdom of surrender. Yin chooses to yield even when everyone else is getting ahead. Like an inner earth, yin is the soil in which we gestate our dreams, refine our intuition, listen to our bodies, and come into the stillness of our centre. When actions arise from the receptive still point they have real meaning. Ideas that emerge from this level of imagination serve more than the individual: they serve the great ecosystem from which our well-being is drawn.” Excerpt from  “Belonging: Remembering Ourselves Home”  by Toko-pa Turner (belongingbook.com) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Here is the utter simplicity of the matter:  In the absence of 𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘧𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯  With any thing,  𝘞𝘩𝘰 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶? Who Am I?   Or better still,  𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶?    ~ Wu Hsin P.L.C. aka Roy Melvyn “You must find your own way. Unless you find it yourself, it will not be your own way and will take you nowhere. Earnestly live your truth as you have found...

The Still Point

Unschooling With Taylor's "Leaf & Learn"

Image
Learning isn’t something that has to be handed to you by someone certified by the government.  That’s not how it works. If you: ✔️went to school ✔️then college ✔️then got a 9-5 job —and feel like you’ve checked all those boxes & you’re done learning new skills… then yeah, I can see how the idea of unschooling would seem super wild. 🤯 Unschooling only makes sense when you have an intimate relationship with learning.  When you know how to teach yourself, how to practice a craft, how to fail, how to persevere. This is why entrepreneurs are the most likely folks to unschool:  because we already know how to carve our own way in the world. We know how to find success without following the main path. We are open-minded enough to see multiple ways of doing things.  I would never mock someone for choosing public school.  But the amount of aggression and hate I’ve seen recently towards our decision to homeschool is SO telling….and if you’re someone who spends your fr...

From Love, NOT For Love.

Why One Kind Seed of Course!

Sometimes people can't reciprocate because they can't give you what they can't give themselves.  Those who are at war with themselves can't give you peace. Those who betray themselves can't give you loyalty.  Those who lie to themselves can't give you honesty.  See the situation as it is in reality. Let them be as they are.  Accept the present moment as if you had chosen it. This DOES NOT mean to agree to it.  Let the reality of each bare moment be exactly what it is.  If you meet someone whose frequency is not aligned with yours, send them love and move along.  Don't fight meaningless battles.  Don't lower your vibe and enmesh with someone else's crisis train.  Don't enable choices of behavior or core values that do not align with yours.  Don't engage with insecure, dis integrated egos.  Meet those still attached to thought with love,  Meet those stuck in the depressive past or projecting an anxious future, with love.  Li...

“Poetry Leaves Room For Silence”

Be Silent & Pay Attention

Image
Happiness is your natural state, it arises effortlessly when you let go of unnecessary complexity. In essence, you already are happiness itself. Yet the mind habitually seeks fulfillment through accumulating knowledge, achievements, and experiences. It constantly projects itself into imagined futures, layering complexity upon complexity. This constant mental noise and motion covers up the simplicity that is your true nature. All that is required is to stop seeking, wanting, and grasping. Return to the simplicity of this moment, just as it is. Simply be with whatever arises, without resistance. Don't make enlightenment into a goal, it is already here, waiting to be revealed when mental clutter subsides. You needn't work hard or acquire anything to know inner joy. It spontaneously emerges when you surrender your demand on this moment and return to the simplicity of the present. Rest in awareness, let life live through you. This ordinary moment, just as it is, contains all the ha...
