AGNSW ~ Georgiana Houghton ⟣⟣⟣

Image
In conjunction with the major exhibition Kandinsky at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Invisible Friends is a rare Sydney showing of ‘spirit drawings’ created in the 1860s and ‘70s by Georgiana Houghton (1814–84). Recently ‘rediscovered’ by art history, Houghton’s outwardly abstract artworks – among the most astonishing images of her time – have now assured her place as one of the most radical of spiritualist artists and a precursor of the abstraction to come. Houghton was a prominent figure of the early spiritualist movement in Victorian England, which played a significant role in 19th-century culture. Spiritualism is a belief system that centres around communication with the spirits of the dead, often through people known as mediums. A trained artist, Houghton was also a medium. When painting, she sought to express the connection between the visible world and the invisible spirit realm, considering the ‘manifestation first, and art second’. With her hand guided by those she called...

Are you still over focusing on what others think of you instead of focusing on being on the path God carved out for you? Come back into wholeness. Return to who YOU really are and always have been.  Do not abandon yourself. Again.  It’s so easy to make it all it about you and its so easy to completely forget yourself as well.  When you’re triggered you’ve split into extremes of good vs bad, right vs wrong. It’s counter intuitive to recognize how healing ourselves informs, supports, allows and sustains our ability to serve those currently experiencing the most direct tragedy and harm. Can you abide as your healed, whole, holy self in this one bare moment? Any remaining wounded, fractured, attached mind self of course still matters and doesn't necessarily need to be in charge of choices of actions, deeds and behaviours.  Similarly your unhealed inner child does not have to be driving your energy in motion. (e-motions)  Slow down internally, pause more, in that eve...

Playing Hide and Seek? Coming Ready or NOT! This is HAPPENING NOW and rapidly spreading though traditional "everything".  "Tokenization" You say?  What is this you speak of?  Maybe you don't want or need to understand, and that's OK.  Realize those who do understand, are creating, building and transforming RWA, NOT just in Finance, but in any area which can be tokenized.  And if you do not (yet) have a need a want or an inclination to learn, be  aware, life long learners in all countries, all societies, all what were once labelled "less developed" or "emerging"  nations, ARE applying themselves and availing them selves of limitless opportunities. Simply by being connected, paying attention and creating. How awesome is this change! Personal responsibility is finally arriving and the waste of "middle" anything is being called out for what it is and eliminated.  This change happening rapidly now is creating a No more excuses, No mo...

Scholarship Recipients

The Brett Whiteley Studio, administered by the Art Gallery of New South Wales, awards an annual travelling art scholarship to talented artists aged between 20 and 30 with an established body of work. For the 2023 scholarship, the Studio will offer two types of residencies under the one application: a residency at the Cité internationale des arts, Paris, for one artist, and a two-week residency at Shark Island Kangaroo Valley for five artists. Mrs Beryl Whiteley (1917–2010) generously allocated funds for the scholarship in memory of her late son, Brett Whiteley, both to encourage excellence in painting and to offer young artists career development opportunities. The 2023 scholarship has seen an increase in its cash prizes and will consist of one recipient receiving $50,000 and three-month residency at the Cité as well as five recipients each receiving $10,000 and a two-week residency at Kangaroo Valley in the Southern Highlands, NSW. The Shark Island Kangaroo Valley residency will be ad...

Anna Purna Living & Parenting

10 Notes on Parenting Teens   How Carrie-Anne Moss  Stepped Out of Her Comfort Zone BEING A MOTHER HAS TAUGHT ME SO MUCH ABOUT MYSELF. by Carrie Anne Moss "My desire to grow is something I truly appreciate. I offered a course for a few years on Annapurna Living called Mother. What a deep and beautiful experience we all had exploring our journey as mothers. I recently came across some notes I had taken a few years ago while speaking to a dear friend/mother/mentor who has a grown daughter.  I wanted to share these notes with you— Perhaps one of you needs this inspiration. Parenting teens is often challenging.  May these notes support anyone who needs them. Notes from my friend Malin about parenting teens: 1. Be delighted with them just the way they are.   Even with patterns of withdrawal,   isolation and addiction to electronics. 2. Work on personal grief/anger/sadness   (connected to teen)   so we become less prone to leaking   these emotion...

"Upstream" by Mary Oliver

Image
Concentration is indeed a difficult art, art’s art, and its difficulty lies in the constant conciliation of the dissonance between self and world — a difficulty hardly singular to the particular conditions of our time. "Two hundred years before social media, the great French artist Eugène Delacroix lamented the necessary torment of avoiding social distractions in creative work ; a century and a half later, Agnes Martin admonished aspiring artists to exercise discernment in the interruptions they allow , or else corrupt the mental, emotional, and spiritual privacy where inspiration arises. But just as self-criticism is the most merciless kind of criticism and self-compassion the most elusive kind of compassion , self-distraction is the most hazardous kind of distraction, and the most difficult to protect creative work against. How to hedge against that hazard is what beloved poet Mary Oliver (September 10, 1935–January 17, 2019) explores in a wonderful piece titled “Of Power and T...
