"AIIA Welcomes the New Assistant Minister for AI and the Digital Economy in South Australia 

The Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA) has welcomed South Australia's appointment of the Nation's first dedicated Assistant Minister for Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Digital Economy. 

The Malinauskas government's creation of this pioneering role in recent ministry changes positions South Australia at the forefront of AI innovation and digital transformation in Australia. 

The AIIA congratulates Assistant Minister Michael Brown on his appointment, noting his strong professional IT background and valuable experience in relevant Parliamentary Committees makes him exceptionally well-qualified for this crucial role. 

"The AIIA has long advocated for dedicated ministerial positions focused on AI and digital economy across all jurisdictions to help realise the tremendous benefits this technology can bring to Australian citizens," said AIIA CEO Simon Bush. 

"While this appointment is a pleasing development, it is unsurprising and builds on our existing strong partnership with the South Australian government. As the AIIA iAwards National Ceremony partner through InvestSA for three consecutive years, we've witnessed firsthand the State's leading position in innovation," Mr Bush added. 

The appointment recognises AI's transformative potential to boost productivity, attract investment, create jobs, and foster the companies of tomorrow. As Assistant Minister for the Digital Economy, Minister Brown will work across government and the private sector to secure South Australia's AI advantage and ensure the State remains at the forefront of our rapidly evolving digital landscape. 

The AIIA looks forward to supporting Assistant Minister Brown in harnessing the full potential of AI and digital technologies to benefit all South Australians."

Report of the South Australian Select Committee on Artificial Intelligence (from 2023)

The Parliamentary Select Committee was established pursuant to a resolution in the House of Assembly on Thursday 6 July 2023, on the motion of Mr Michael Brown MP, to inquire into and report upon the current state of Artificial Intelligence (AI) development, deployment and application across various sectors, with a particular focus on the economic, social and ethical implications for South Australia. The report includes the opportunities and challenges for the energy and mining, education, agriculture, manufacturing, legal services, and health services industry sectors.

The recommendations include facilitate appropriate reskilling of impacted workers, spearhead the training of AI professionals in South Australia, invest in public sector capacity to develop technical knowledge to incorporate AI into work tasks within government departments and support training programs for employees, develop a State Action Plan to market South Australia as the premier destination for AI investment in Australia, consider the introduction of a Growth Accelerator to accelerate the adoption of AI technologies in industry, and consider a pilot of AI technology related subjects in the curriculum.

The recent significant appointment (below) is encouraging as Michael Brown MP is one of Australia's leading contemporary political thinkers on just what AI is able to provide for both his state and broader populations. 

He currently is one of the few Australian politicians who understand the enormous innovative learning opportunities that AI will bring, for humans. 

Australian leaders are also learning more about the convergence of open source directed acyclic graph DLT being even more influential than just this rapid expansion of ethical AI. 

When these two major innovations converge further during 2025, that is when exponential HUMAN learning, innovative clarity and more efficiency for those using BOTH these still nascent technologies in tandem. I believe DLT ( especially those choosing the more contemporary directed acyclic graph #hashgraph, which is NOT legacy blockchain per se) will see even greater breakthroughs in government, business and societal efficiency and the immutable transparency of ethical data that is training the AI in the first place.
