JSON-RPC
JSON-RPC, the native communication protocol designed for EVM-supported blockchains, is now openly accessible and ready for in-production application use on the Hedera network, the open source, leaderless proof-of-stake public network. By incorporating JSON-RPC support, Hedera fosters increased interoperability and greater EVM equivalence, streamlining the Web3 development experience for developers and infrastructure providers. As an open-source solution, JSON-RPC encourages innovation and collaboration across the EVM ecosystem, while promoting the growth and advancement of the Hedera network.
Saiprasad Raut, Co-Chair Technical Steering & Product Committee at the Hedera Governing Council, commented on the announcement,
"JSON-RPC marks a significant achievement on the Hedera network's journey towards EVM equivalence. We foresee this advancement propelling rapid adoption by both new and migrating developers in the Web3 space. As the Hedera mainnet recently crossed the 17 billion transaction milestone, our aim is to amplify the network effects already evident in the Hedera network today by ensuring the best developer experience. To accomplish this, the Hedera Governing Council continues to prioritize streamlining the adoption process. We see JSON-RPC as one tool of many in our toolkit. We've found that once developers and retail users experience the Hedera network's distinct advantages, they remain actively engaged within its thriving ecosystem."
Hedera News - Week of Aug 18, 2023
Once again, happy Friday Hedera community. This week on the podcast, we welcomed Solo Ceesay, co-founder of Calaxy, to talk about the Creator’s Galaxy launch that has been years in the making. Benzinga - JSON-RPC Providers Now on Hedera: Accelerating Developer Adoption with EVM Tooling and Wallets
Hedera continues to signal its commitment to service innovation and improvement with the news that JSON-RPC, a native communication protocol designed for EVM-supported blockchains, is now openly accessible on Hedera. By incorporating JSON-RPC onto the network, Hedera streamlines the Web3 development experience for developers and infrastructure providers, enabling increased interoperability and greater Ethereum Virtual Machine equivalence. Through this integration, Web3 developers can easily tap into Hedera’s robust infrastructure and operate public or private JSON-RPC relays (e.g. Hashio). Further to this, Web3 developers can take advantage of a vast array of familiar EVM libraries, tools, and environments, to expedite the design, testing, and deployment of their Web3 applications. Following on from this successful integration, JSON-RPC will soon be set to enable broader individual user adoption by offering support for MetaMask and other JSON-RPC comparative EVM wallets.
Duncan Moir, from Hedera Governing Council member abrdn, penned a piece highlighting how blockchains and other forms of distributed ledger technology (DLT) are set to transform the way organisations across industries operate and, ultimately, the way individuals live their lives. In it, he highlights how some proof-of-stake networks, especially Hedera, are particularly environmentally friendly.
Cointelegraph - FedNow showcases DLT-powered payments system as service provider
FedNow, the United States Federal Reserve’s instant payment system, has added Dropp, a micropayments platform built on Hedera, to its Service Provider Showcase. The Service Provider Showcase aims to connect financial institutions and businesses with service providers that can ‘help them innovate and implement instant payment products using the FedNow service’. Leveraging regulated banking technology and Hedera’s distributed ledger technology (DLT), Dropp offers a digital solution designed to enable merchants to accept payments at significantly reduced costs. As the financial industry continues to evolve, the Federal Reserve’s dedication to exploring new technologies is indicative of the strong potential of fintech solutions. This move also underscores the capacity of DLT to revolutionize current payment systems and transaction processes.
This piece further highlights the news that FedNow has added Dropp to its Service Provider Showcase. By leveraging Hedera’s fast settlement times, and low, predictable fees, “Dropp makes it possible for digital merchants to offer goods and services at a granular level that has not been possible affordably because of the cost of credit card transaction fees — opening up a digital economy for micro-purchases.” Leveraging Dropp, merchants can move away from the traditional content subscription model, packaging and pricing their services in various new ways, including as pay-per-use products. As such, consumers can choose to only pay for what they consume.
