BEING A MOTHER HAS TAUGHT ME SO MUCH ABOUT MYSELF.
by Carrie Anne Moss

"My desire to grow is something I truly appreciate. I offered a course for a few years on Annapurna Living called Mother. What a deep and beautiful experience we all had exploring our journey as mothers. I recently came across some notes I had taken a few years ago while speaking to a dear friend/mother/mentor who has a grown daughter.  I wanted to share these notes with you— Perhaps one of you needs this inspiration. Parenting teens is often challenging.  May these notes support anyone who needs them. Notes from my friend Malin about parenting teens:

1. Be delighted with them just the way they are.
Even with patterns of withdrawal,
isolation and addiction to electronics.

2. Work on personal grief/anger/sadness
(connected to teen)
so we become less prone to leaking
these emotions onto them.

3. Remember all is well and your connection
is not lost. You have not lost your teen.

4. Make yourself available to your teen
and patiently wait for them.

5. Go to them.
Don’t expect them to come to you

6. Show no judgment.
Don’t Fake enthusiasm. BE REAL.

7. Remember your teen wants you.

8. Loving limits firmly set.
Drawing limits will never make you lose your child.

9. Do not make your children reassure you.
It is not their job.

10. Having healthy mentors/friends
who have crossed thresholds ahead of you
of raising children is very helpful and reassuring.

Sending all you brave mamas so much love."
