Farming Families
Unlike us, the Present is always at peace.
Unlike us, the Present doesn’t resist change.
As the philosopher Heraclitus noted,
the Present rests by allowing itself to change,
and changes by allowing itself to rest.
Always at peace, it never holds still;
its peace is unfathomable,
and its changes are too fluid to notate.
But the Present is also wild
untamable and unpredictable.
So the nature of the Present is that of a wild peace.
That’s one reason we turn to natural environments to feel present:
because nature itself is at the same time utterly
at peace and utterly wild.
Resilience, peace of parched earths,
Sweet drops mercy, wild a Gentle Rain.
Fine families, strong, feeling their weigh,
The fodder, the herd, the fences, the hay.
Resilence remarkable, discomfort, dismay.
shining in sharing this, inner strength.
Responsibility, generations, proud and fair
May Your Rivers Run Over
as flows a fresh growth.
like your humour, like your kindness,
the chosen work of humanity
ease with grace and Faith.
